Educator
Bill Bobenhausen has been instrumental in the development of many national
educational workshop series (including computer software-based programs (e.g.
ENERGY-10) and those specializing in distance learning) on energy-efficient,
environmentally responsible design for the AIA, DOE, NYSERDA, NYS Division of
Housing and Community Renewal, FEMP, GSA, the Sustainable Building Industry
Council, the Architect of the Capitol, and others. Since 1980, Mr. Bobenhausen
has served as an adjunct faculty member at the architectural schools of the City
College of New York (CCNY), Pratt Institute, and New Jersey Institute of
Technology (NJIT) instructing a variety of required and elective courses in
construction technology, energy efficiency and sustainable design. For the
Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), and CCNY, Mr. Bobenhausen
developed and taught a summer construction management intern program for eight
summers during the 1990's. An important current project is the work to develop a 2005
Sustainable Design Handbook for the New Jersey Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability.
The Handbook coordinates "green" concepts, LEED™, and MasterFormat2004.
Author
William Bobenhausen is co-author, with James Marston Fitch. of the 1999 third
edition of the classic American Building: The Environmental Forces That Shape
It. Originally authored by Fitch in 1947, and revised in 1973, American
Building is an architectural classic that has served to inform and inspire many of
today's leading practitioners of sustainable "green" design. The third
edition includes a new chapter, Toward Sustainability, written by Bill that
explores the emerging field of sustainable design in depth, and provides many
case studies. Mr. Bobenhausen is also the author of Simplified Design of HVAC
(Systems) published in 1994 in John Wiley & Sons Parker/Ambrose Simplified
Design Series. A revised second edition of SD HVAC is currently being developed
for anticipated publication during 2003. He has also authored three sections of
the current edition of Architectural Graphic Standards and a wide variety of
articles in magazines and professional journals.
